Playacting
Playacting is the transatlantic experimental math-folk project of Evan Wilson and Robin Koob. The project was established by Wilson as an angular, noisy math-rock band but when Koob came on board the sound changed to something more textural, refined and emotive. Muted classical guitar interlocks with violin, electronics, samples and prepared piano to support Wilson and Koob's dual vocals. The mathy ethos lives on through a new experimental folk lens that lets the raw emotional lyrics take centre stage - feelings, but in 7/8.

Debut EP from Playacting (in search of a record label)
Playacting’s debut EP 'Theatre' is a paper maché puppet show of math and folk, lovingly held together by glue sticks, heartbreak, and a few wires sticking out the back. Evan Wilson’s nimble classical guitar (with a whisper of math rock anxiety) tangles and untangles itself around Robin Koob’s wistful, Americana-soaked violin. It’s all stitched into a soundworld of samples, warped piano strings, and ghostly tape hiss.
Over five winding tracks, Wilson sings in plainspoken lines that sneak up on you—songs about loss, emotional blind spots, and the messes we make for ourselves just to feel something. 'Theatre' might be fragile, but it knows exactly what it’s doing.
